SPORTS BRIEFS: Kasturi qualifies for B div national league

KATHMANDU: Kasturi Yuva Club of Siraha has qualified for the B division national league as the runner up of Red Bull B Division Regional Super League Football Tournament being held in Waling, Syangja. Trinity Yuva Club of Syangja has already qualified for the national league.



In Monday´s match, Trinity and Kasturi played a goalless draw. Trinity garnered seven points with two wins to qualify as the winner of group stage. Similarly, Kasturi registered a win and two draws to finish runner up with five points. [break]



The winner of B division super league, Trinity was awarded Rs 75,000 and the runner up, Kasturi, bagged a purse of Rs 35,000.

In another match, SM Sports Club of Dhanusa defeated New Generation Club of Sindhupalchowk 3-2. Bimal Lama opened scoring for SM Sports in the eighth minute but Anil Lama hit back equalizer in the 51st minute.



Anil Lama made it 2-1 for SM Sports in the 56th minute. But the lead could not last for more than four minutes as Pratap Singh leveled scoring in an hour mark for New Generation and hit the match decider in the 70th minute to seal the victory. Trinity and Kasturi will now contest in the B division national league consisting of eight teams including top six teams of the Martyrs Memorial B Division Football League.


Barahai, Panta start with win



KATHMANDU: Sunil Barahai, Krishna Panta and Ramesh Dangol started with a winning note in men´s singles during Baneshwar Badminton Championship 2012 First Valley-wide Open Running Shield that kicked off on Monday at the Multiple Health Complex, Mid-baneshwar. Barahai of Prayag Pokhari defeated Rajendra Khadka of Tinkune 22-20, 24-20.



Panta of the host Awaaz Nepal saw off Rabin Kandangwa of Complete Health 14-21, 21-18, 26-24. In other singles matches, Dangol of Hadigaun eased past Lokesh Saud of the host 21-17, 21-12. Similarly, Santosh Moktan and Bidur Tiwari of host, Surendra Thapa of Complete and Milan Rai of Nakkhipot all entered quarterfinal winning their respective matches.



Anil Thapa of host enjoyed walkover to secure quarterfinal berth. In men´s doubles, Surendra Budathoki and Saro Thapa´s pair of Bulls Gym, Mani Prasad Kandangwa and Bhawani Angdangwe´s pair of Milanchowk, Ramesh Dangol and Krishna Prajapati´s pair of Hadigaun, and Kiran Rana and Mahesh Swar´s pair of Complete won their respective matches.



Kanchanjungha wins cricket title



MORANG (REPUBLICA): Kanchanjungha Higher Secondary School clinched the title of Third Rum Pum HISAN Sports Meet in cricket on Monday. In the final, Kanchanjungha defeated Sikshya Deep Higher Secondary School by eight wickets. Winning the toss, Sikshya Deep opted to bat first and scored 62 runs losing all wickets in 17 overs. Kanchanjungha reached the target in 10 overs losing two wickets.



Amit Sharma was adjudged man-of-the-match while Ashif Raja of Sikshya Deep was declared man-of-the-series. Likewise, Orchid defeated Bhanu Higher Secondary School 3-0 to lift the football title. Ankit Dhakal scored a brace while Tek Narayan Majhi scored a goal for the winning team. Gajendra Thapa was adjudged the best player of the tournament. In women´s volleyball, Sikshya Deep beat Cobas College 2-1 for the title. Rajani Acharya received best player award.



Girl´s teams set up all Angel´s Heart final



KATHMANDU: Both the teams of Angel´s Heart advanced into the final of the Fourth Newton Inter School Volleyball Tournament in the girls´ category on Monday. In the first semifinal, Angel´s Heart ´A´ edged past Bijeshori 25-22, 26-24, 6-24, 25-16 while the ´B´ team of Angel´s Heart received a walkover from Samakhushi English Boarding School. In the boys´ category, Apollo set up title clash with the host Newton. Apollo overcame Angel´s Heart 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 and Newton beat Shree Kamana 25-16, 25-19, 22-25, 25-11.



Mitra Park dojo wins title


KATHMANDU: Mitra Park Dojo lifted the team championship trophy of the 21st Valleywide Children´s Model Gojukai Karate Tournament on Monday. Mitra Park won seven gold medals and three silver medals in the tournament. Host Children´s Model School finished second with three gold and three silver medals. Anmol Jyoti School won three gold medals and finished in the third position. Sagar Prajapati and Shanti Rai were declared the best players of the tournament. Phurba Nigma Lama of Mitra Park Dojo won gold medal in the male open category while Yang Dolma Lama of Children´s Model School won gold in female open category.
