SPORTS BRIEFS: Gold medalists are home

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Gold medalists of the Second Faziltunessa Mujib International Karate Championship held in Dhaka, Bangladesh arrived in Kathmandu on Monday.



National Sports Council Member-Secretary Yuvraj Lama and President of Nepal Karate Do Federation and Nepal Sito-ryu Karate Do Association Dawa Gurung welcomed the 17-member team on Monday. [break]Nepal had clean swept the three-day tournament winning all the gold medals off 14 events. President Gurung said the success in Dhaka will develop confidence of the players for the upcoming 12th South Asian Games.



Kathford in quarters

KATHMANDU: Kathford College advanced into the quarterfinals of the Sixth BBA Football Tournament on Monday. With a goal from Bibek Chaudhary Kathford defeated Nepal Commerce Campus 1-0. Kathford will face defending champion Shankardev College in the quarterfinal.



In the opening match of the tournament played at Nepal Police Academy, Maharajgunj, Kantipur College of Management and Information Technology (KCMIT) edged past Institute of Management Studies (IMS) 1-0. Suraj Tamang scored the winning goal for KCMIT. Today´s matches will be played between Jana Priya Campus, Pokhara and K and K.
