SPORTS BRIEFS: FIFA provides kits worth $ 75,000

KATHMANDU: The governing body of world football FIFA will donate sports kits worth $ 75,000 to Nepal, the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) informed through a press statement on Tuesday. Nepal will receive 500 pairs of jersey sets, 250 pairs of track suits, 250 pairs of shin guards, 50 pair of gloves, 250 pair of boots, 200 pieces of beeps, 250 pieces of football bags and 1,000 pieces of football. According to the statement, the kits will be utilized for youth national team, age group national team and men and women´s national team.



Gurung claims Asian bronze

KATHMANDU: Veteran Nepali athlete Krishna Bahadur Gurung claimed bronze medal in the Asian Masters´ Athletics Championship in Taiwan. Gurung claimed the bronze medal in the 10km race of 45 years age group with a timing of 37 minute 32.18 seconds. Tserendorj Purevjav of Mangolia and Dinesh Kumar of India clinched the gold and silver medals respectively in the event. Gurung finished fifth in the 5 km race.



NOC officials off to Macau

KATHMANDU: A three-member delegation of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), left Kathmandu on Tuesday to participate in the 31st Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) General Assembly to be held in Macau on Thursday. The NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, General Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha and Treasurer Chhimi Urken Gurung will attend the general assembly. According to NOC, the general assembly will finalize the host for the Asian Games 2019. Hanoi (Vietnam), Dubai (UAE) and Surabaya (Indonesia) have submitted their candidacy for hosting the 2019 Asian Games.



KU, NCM win cricket matches

KATHMANDU: Host Kathmandu University Central Campus (KU) and Nepal College of Management (NCM) won their respective matches on Tuesday in the First KU Cup T20 Cricket Tournament being held at KU Ground, Dhulikhel. KU defeated Kantipur Dental College (KDC) by nine wickets while NCM beat National College of Development Studies (NCDS) by four wickets. In the first match of the day, KDC elected to bat first and bundled out at 70 runs in 17 overs. Krishna Bista, Shirish Bajracharya and Umesh Badu took two wickets each for KU.



Chasing the 71-run target, KU met the target with nine wickets and 13 overs remaining. Pragyesh Dhungel and Krishna Bista contributed 27 runs each to the winning side.In the second match of the day, NCDS elected to bat first and put up 99/9 in allotted 20 overs as Saurav Bastola scored 28 runs. Ashish Ghimire took three wickets for NCM. NCM reached the target with six wickets and 9.4 overs remaining. Dinesh Barakoti contributed 23 runs off 14 balls for the winning side.
