SPORTS BRIEFS: Daffodil, Valley Public, TIA win titles

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: The U-5 boys´ team of Daffodil clinched the title of the 9th Gyan Niketan Inter-School Basketball Tournament on Sunday defeating New Shrine 35-29.



Likewise, the girls´ team of Valley Public edged past TIA 30-18 in the final to claim the first position. Samikchha Bista alone scored 27 points for Valley Public. [break]



Meanwhile, the senior boys´ team of TIA won the title by ousting Wilson Academy 61-47.



Anish Shahi, who scored 23 points for TIA, was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Anusha Malla of TIA and Anuj Rana Magar of New Shrine were declared MVPs in the girls´ and U-5 boys´ categories, respectively.



The highest scorers of the tournament were Minraj Tamang (U-5 boys´), Samikchha Bista (girls´) and Suman Magar (senior boys´) with 76 points, 53 points and 102 points, respectively.







VS Niketan, Prime start with win



KATHMANDU, Feb 14: VS Niketan and Prime Club started the Third U-19 Whitehouse Cup National Basketball Championship on a winning note on Sunday.



VS Niketan defeated Pentagon College 42-33 in the first match of the day in the tournament organized by Nepal Basketball Association. Sandip Kunwar (15 points) was the highest scorer for VS Niketan.



Likewise, Prime thrashed Lincoln College 58-29 in the second match of the day. Deepak Pun scored 16 points for the winning side.
