Socialist Communist Party launches signature campaign against resumption of MCC projects

Organizing an interaction seminar in Kathmandu through its International Department, the party claimed that the MCC project threatens Nepal’s national identity, undermines its sovereignty and foreign policy, contradicts the nation’s non-aligned stance and opens the door for unrestricted US intervention.

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: The Socialist Communist Party Nepal has launched a signature campaign in protest of the US government’s decision to resume the suspended Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project in Nepal. The party warned of strong resistance, citing concerns over national sovereignty and foreign interference.



Organizing an interaction seminar in Kathmandu through its International Department, the party claimed that the MCC project threatens Nepal’s national identity, undermines its sovereignty and foreign policy, contradicts the nation’s non-aligned stance and opens the door for unrestricted US intervention. They also raised concerns over exploitation of Nepal’s natural resources.

During the event, the party presented a concept paper titled "Anti-national MCC: Challenges and Solutions," delivered by Ashok Subedi, head of the International Department. The paper was discussed by General Secretary Purna Bahadur Singh ‘Samarjung’, Advisor Mandhwaj Shrestha, All Nepal Communist Party Chairman Narayan Sharma, Pushpalal Study Society Chairman Lok Krishna Bhattarai, leftist intellectual Mahadeep Pokharel, Nepal Communist Party chairman Loknarayan Suvedi, NCP (Masal) Spokesperson Ram Prakash Puri and other party leaders including Madhav Gautam, Devaraj Ghimire and Laxmi Paudel, sister of martyr Kumar Paudel.


The party’s International Department claimed that the campaign has gained support from several leftist intellectuals and diplomats including Hiranyalal Shrestha, Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, former Chief Secretary and Ambassador Leelamani Paudyal, Narendra Jung Peter, Shyam Shrestha, former Governor Dr Dipendra Bahadur Kshetri, legal analyst Dr Yuvraj Sangraula, NCP (Bahumat) General Secretary Dharmendra Bastola, Hemant Prakash Oli and Ramsingh Sris from the Revolutionary Communist Party Nepal, NCP (Masal) General Secretary Mohan Bikram Singh, literary figures Dr. Ramprasad Gyawali, Lila Mani Pokharel of CPN (Maoist Center) and Sadhyabahadur Bhandari, among others.
