Police have arrested a youth in course of the sit-in protest. Markets in Lahan have been completely closed since Thursday at the call of the Chamber.

The protest would continue until and unless the demands raised by the Chamber are met, said Chamber president Sunil Mahato.

The Chamber has demanded disciplinary action on those police personnel found guilty in the beating, return of the seized property and formation of a high-level committee to investigate into the incident.

The dispute arose after a police squad in plain clothes attempted to carry out a raid in the hotel in the night of Wednesday.

The hotel management barred the police from carrying out the raid in the hotel.

The Chamber has accused the police of beating up hotel owner and its former president Nirash Chaudhary and district president of Nepal Contractors´ Association, Bishal Saha.

Siraha police chief Rajeshlal Karn, however, denied the charges and said that police went to raid the hotel, following an information that criminals were residing there.

The hotel management attacked the police personnel deputed for the raid, he said. He accused the hotel management of helping criminals flee the scene. A motorcycle with the Registration No. Ja 2 Pa 9005 was seized in front of the hotel, he added.
