During a meeting between members of the high-level political mechanism and Prime Minister Oli on Friday, top leaders suggested Oli to sign a long-term agreement to import fuel from China during his visit.Prime Minister Oli convened the meeting with leaders of the high-level mechanism to seek suggestions regarding his week-long visit to China.
"Diversifying the country's trade including oil import is very essential to reduce our dependency on a single country on oil. So, we stressed the prime minister on striking a long-term deal with China on fuel import during his visit," said Deputy Prime Minister Chitra Bahadur KC, who is also a member of the mechanism and was present at the meeting.
Senior leaders from various political parties including former prime minister Jhala Nath Khanal of CPN-UML, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Commerce Minister Deepak Bohora of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Health Minister Ram Janam Chaudhary of MPRF-Democratic, among others were present at the meeting.
The leaders also advised Prime Minister Oli to reach agreements with the Chinese side on trade and transit and opening new border checkpoints and upgrading roads connecting Chinese borders.
They also suggested to the prime minister to refrain from reaching any agreement that would put the country in harm.
