Shrestha defeated Nepal No 7 Sanjay Lama on his home course in the final to defend the Match Play title. Shrestha defeated Lama with a hole to spare in the final played over 36 holes. He was 2-up after the 35th hole.[break]
Shrestha was 2-up after the completion of the first nine holes. He maintained the lead until the completion of the 18th hole. Shrestha had moved up to 3-up in the 27th hole but by the end of the 35th hole he was ahead by only 2-up, which was enough to clinch title.
Shrestha termed the final a competitive one. "I had expected a better result but I missed putting on several occasions," said Shrestha. "Meanwhile, Sanjay (Lama) put up a good show and prolonged the competition until the 35th hole," he added.
Champion Shrestha received Rs 50,000 while runner-up Lama got Rs 30,000.
Meanwhile, Nepal No 14 Deepak Acharya claimed the third position. Gokarna Golf Club professional Acharya won the third place play-off played over 18 holes as his opponent Nepal No 4 Surya Prasad Sharma pulled out midway through the round. Acharya was 4-up after the completion of 12 holes when Sharma pulled out.
Third-placed Acharya bagged Rs 22,000 while fourth-placed Sharma got Rs 18,000.
The top 16 players as per the Order of Merit of 2011-12 season had participated in the ninth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13.
The losing quarterfinalists -- Ram Thapa, Yelamber Singh Adhikari, Deepak Thapa Magar and Pashupati Sharma -- received Rs 10,000 each.
President of Royal Nepal Golf Club Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha, General Secretary of Nepal Golf Association Tashi Ghale, Advisor of Nepal PGA Ghana Shyam Thapa and President of Nepal PGA Rabindra Man Shrestha gave away the prizes to the winners.
