Seven killed, 25 injured in collision between bus and EV micro in Chitwan

At least seven people were killed and 25 others injured in a road accident in Chitwan on Saturday morning.

CHITWAN, JUNE 21: At least seven people were killed and 25 others injured in a road accident in Chitwan on Saturday morning. 


The accident occurred at around 10:15 AM on the East–West Highway at Khahare Bridge in Rapti Municipality–4 when a bus (Province 1–01–001 Kha 3583) en route to Kakarbhitta from Dhangadhi collided head-on with an electric vehicle (Bagmati Province 03–001 Ja 299) coming from Makwanpur towards Narayangadh.


According to the police, the condition of the injured ranges from minor to critical. The injured have been taken to Bharatpur Hospital, Alive Hospital, Old Medical College, and New Medical College for treatment.

Among those who died at Bharatpur Hospital were 55-year-old Som Prasad Rupakheti of Hatiya–3, Makwanpur, 53-year-old Maiya Kumari Nyaupane Pahadi of Hetauda–5, two unidentified women aged around 18–19 and 24–25, one unidentified man aged around 22–23, a pregnant woman aged 30–35, and another man aged around 35–40.


At Alive Hospital, the injured include 16-year-old Saksham Thapa, 32-year-old Singhbir Ghalan, 31-year-old Bishnu Lamsal, and 34-year-old Ganga Ghalan — all from Makwanpur.


At Old Medical College, Sushila Baral, 65, and Uma Baral, 67, from Gauradaha–9, Jhapa; Bir Bahadur Jaisi, 48, from Belauri–4, Kanchanpur; and Sandesh Oli, 30, from Aathbiskot–9, Rukum West are undergoing treatment. Ten others are being treated at New Medical College and are said to be in stable condition.


Both vehicles remain at the crash site, causing traffic blockage in both directions of the highway. Police are working to reopen the road using cranes, and vehicles are being rerouted through a diversion.


A team of 45 police personnel has been deployed to the accident site, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjan Awa from Tandi Area Police Office, Inspector Rupesh Bista from Bhandara Area Police Office, and Inspector Pradeep Jung Mahat from Khairahani Area Police Office.


According to District Police Office Chitwan spokesperson Rabindra Khanal, further investigation and data collection are underway.
