Seti flood sweeps away squatter settlement

POKHARA, July 12: Two squatter settlements in Pokhara have been inundated by flood in Seti river since Wednesday midnight.



Around three dozen families in Pokhara-10, Ramghat and Pokhara-1, Gaighat have been hit hard as the water level rose significantly, according to the police. [break]



The locals were rescued with boats brought from Fewa Lake after the flood inundated human settlements. Kaski Police said 29 persons, including 16 children were rescued and shifted to a safe place.



“We rescued the stranded persons from one to three in the morning,” said Spokesperson at Kaski Police Rabindra Paudel.



Kaski Police said a team of 35 policemen led by inspector Ramesh Prasad Shrestha had reached Ramghat immediately after news about the flood spread.
