KATHMANDU, March 29: The probe subcommittee formed by the State Affairs Committee of the parliament has written a letter to the office of the prime minister to immediately make available five Armed Personnel Carriers (APCs) and six vehicles, among other safety materials, to the Nepal Police team working in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Sudan.

The subcommittee wrote a letter to the government after wrapping up its weeklong visit to the country.

There are 140 Nepali policemen working in Sudan. The eight APCs sent to Sudan by Nepal Police are not in functioning condition as they had been exposed under open sky at a sea port for 13 months while being transported to Sudan.

According to Pradip Gyawali, who led the team in Sudan, the Nepali blue helmets are currently borrowing the APCs from other countries. "Their works have been adversely affected and their lives are at risk for lack of APCs," said Gyawali.

The subcommittee was formed to probe the multi-million rupees alleged scam over the purchase of APCs.
