Superintendent of Police at the District Police Range (DPO) Kathmandu, Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, informed Republica that Oli had been handed over to his family at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
Both leaders had been under investigation for allegations of excessive use of power during the Gen Z movement on September 8. They were arrested in Bhaktapur on March 28, following a recommendation from the investigative commission to probe the incidents.
The families of Oli and Lekhak had challenged their detention in the Supreme Court, claiming it was illegal, but their petition was dismissed. The court emphasized that no further extensions of custody should be granted while the investigation continues.
