KATHMANDU, Feb 28: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday refused to register a contempt case against Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi.

"The case tries to undermine the position of chief justice and the court´s honor," reads a ruling issued by Assistant Registrar Nahakul Subedi clarifying on the apex court´s move. [break]

Advocate Sunil Ranjan Singh on Wednesday had sought to register the case after the apex court issued a press statement saying the chief justice has a positive view regarding the proposal to head a new government in order to end the ongoing political and constitutional crisis, and not out of any personal ambition.

"The apex court´s statement issued earlier does not mention that the chief justice accepted the executive post but rather said it would respect judiciary and legal decisions," the ruling reads.
