KATHMANDU, Sept 30: The Supreme Court on Sunday ordered the ministry of energy to resume the earlier process of selecting managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) that was stalled following the formation of the Public Corporation Direction Board (PCDB).

A division bench of justices Ram Kumar Prasad Sah and Baidyanath Upadhyay issued the order acting on the writ petition filed by Rameshwar Yadav, one of the candidates who had applied for the post.[break]

The government had announced vacancy for the post last December after Dipendra Nath Sharma, the first NEA managing director selected through open competition resigned from the post within three months of appointment in last November.

Fifteen applicants had applied for the post out of which five had been selected for the interview. Following an interview, the selection committee had selected three candidates -- Rameshwor Yadav, Uttar Kumar Shrestha and Mukesh Kafle.

However, the energy ministry decided to scrap the earlier selection process and begin the process anew through PCDB. The announcement for the vacant post was made for the second time and applications were received. But the process was halted after the Supreme Court issued an interim order.
