Say hello to Meet: NT's new social networking site

KATHMANDU, Jan 18: Nepal Telecom (NT) has launched a social networking site named 'Meet'.

Minister for Information and Communications Sher Dhan Rai launched the site www.meet.com.np amid a function held in Kathmandu on Monday. Speaking at the program, Rai said that the new product is the outcome of the state-owned telecom's efforts to provide quality and innovative services to its clients.


Rai expressed confidence that the new product will encourage subscribers to be more connected to NT. "But it also needs to win the hearts of subscribers by enhancing its quality and increasing access to remote areas," he added.

NT hopes that the new product with features like sharing text, pictures, audio and video content, will provide platform for it to interact with its subscribers regarding its services and facilities.

Buddhi Prasad Acharya, managing director of NT, said that the company is working its best to make sure that customers feel change in the quality of service. "We will be introducing various services in 'Meet' and will be upgrading it continuously," Acharya said, adding that the new product is in line with the company's vision of providing new and value added services.

According to NT, customers can directly log in through the website or download the Meet app form Apple's App Store and Google Play Store. However, one needs to have a valid GSM or CDMA phone number for registration.

The service also allows subscribers to send up to 10 SMS for free every day. Likewise, subscribers will also be able to use bulk SMS facility through which they can send up to 5,000 SMS at a time.

NT officials say that 'Meet' was developed with an investment of Rs 102 million.

Pratul Sarkar, manager -- business at NT, said that 'Meet' has been launched in order to bring different services provide by NT into Unified Communication system (UCS).

"We hope that as the name 'Meet' suggests, we will be able to bring all the customers into a single system so that it is easier for both the subscribers to take various services as well as the company to inform people about various services it has to offer," said Sarkar.
