Students, teachers, musicians, artists and others have thronged in various Saraswti temples including Lele Saraswati Temple, Swoyambhu and Maitidevi in Kathmandu Valley to worship the Goddess of knowledge and wisdom wishing to be blessed and for prayers.[break]
Educational institutions also worship the Goddess on school premises today. Students also worship their books and pens to please Goddess Saraswoti on the occasion.
This is also the day when parents start teaching first alphabet and numbers to their children.
From this very day, the sun starts moving to the northern hemisphere causing long days and signaling the advent of spring season. Therefore, this day is also known as Basanta Panchami.
