KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Mumbai Police have arrested the suspect in the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Police reported arresting the suspect in Hiranandi, Thane, Maharashtra Saturday evening.
According to Indian media, the accused is the man, named Vijay Das. “The accused worked in a restaurant and has confessed to the crime,” news agency ANI quoted Mumbai Police as saying. Mumbai Police is preparing to hold a press conference this morning (Sunday) to make the accused public and disclose information about the incident.
On the night of January 16, actor Saif was attacked on the 12th floor of his residence in Bandra, Mumbai. Saif was stabbed repeatedly by an attacker who tried to rob him. He’s receiving treatment at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital.

Doctors have removed a fragment of a broken knife from Saif’s spine. According to the doctors involved in the treatment, Saif’s health condition is stable and he will be discharged soon.
During the investigation on Saturday, the police had recovered a broken knife fragment from Saif’s house. Mumbai Police has recorded the statement of Saif's wife and actress Kareena Kapoor Khan. She said that Saif was attacked after the attacker entered the house, but his belongings were not looted.
The accused is currently in custody. Mumbai Police had been searching for the perpetrator of the crime. Earlier, they had taken a person into custody for questioning at the Bandra police station and released him. Police have confirmed that the person is not related to the attack. On Friday, Mumbai Police arrested a suspect and took him to the Bandra police station for questioning.
A Mumbai Police official said that they had taken him into custody after questioning several people who looked similar to the attacker. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam had stated on Friday that "no underworld gang" was involved in the incident.
