KATHMANDU, March 11: Nepali rupee appreciated by 40 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Gold price, on the other hand, increased by Rs 255 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 107.92.
Rupee gained 28 paisa on Monday to settle at 107.64 against the greenback. Though the value of rupee remained unchanged on Tuesday, it lost 52 paisa on Wednesday to end the day at Rs 108.16 against dollar. Rupee, however, strengthened by 27 paisa against the greenback on Thursday to Rs 107.89. The local unit gained another 37 paisa against US dollar on Friday to close the week at Rs 107.52.
Similarly, rupee gained 44 paisa against euro but lost 10 paisa against Pound Sterling over the week. On Friday, a euro was exchanged at Rs 117.90 while Pound Sterling was valued Rs 152.75.
BULLION
Bullion trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 48,185 per 10 grams.
Though the price of gold remained unchanged on Monday, it went up by Rs 255 per 10 grams on Tuesday to close at Rs 48,440. Gold lost its luster on Wednesday, as its price fell Rs 170 per 10 grams to close at Rs 48,270. Price of gold went down by another Rs 260 per 10 grams on Thursday to end the day at Rs 48,010. Price of the yellow metal, however, increased by Rs 430 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 48,440.
Price of silver remained unchanged at Rs 626 per 10 grams this week.
Rupee weakens, gold glitters on Brexit
