KATHMANDU, Nov 30: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Bibeksheel Sajha Party formally merged on Sunday, sealing their unification with a five-point political agreement signed by top leaders of the two parties.

Under the pact, the unified party will continue to operate as the Rastriya Swatantra Party, retaining its familiar blue flag, white circular emblem and the iconic ‘bell’ election symbol. Bibeksheel Sajha has formally and unconditionally accepted RSP’s political ideology and leadership, while both parties have agreed to document and recognize the contributions of the late Ujjwal Thapa and the broader “Bibeksheel Campaign” to Nepal’s alternative politics.

The agreement was signed by Acting RSP President Dol Prasad Aryal and Vice-President Dr. Swarnim Wagle, alongside Bibeksheel Sajha Chair Samiksha Baskota and Vice-Chair Prakash Chandra Pariyar.

As part of the unification, leaders from the Bibeksheel Sajha Party will be integrated into RSP’s special Federal Leadership Platform—formed for the party’s first national convention—based on mutual understanding. Members of this platform will hold a status equivalent to central committee members and Bibeksheel Sajha’s leaders and advisors will be incorporated across central, provincial and local structures according to merit, inclusion and public reputation.

The two sides have also committed to completing all legal procedures at the Election Commission and to jointly managing movable and immovable assets once belonging to the individual parties. The unified party has extended an open call to other progressive, reform-minded alternative political groups and individuals to join the RSP’s ideological and organizational fold, rallying around its leadership and the bell symbol to advance democratic good governance and national prosperity.

The merger signals a significant recalibration within Nepal’s alternative political bloc, with the newly unified RSP positioning itself as a broader and more consolidated force ahead of future electoral contests.
