According to traders, price of popular dry fruits such as cashew nut, Pistachio nut, raisins has dropped following similar change in the international market prices. Nepal imports most of the dry fruits.
According to K K Pradhan, proprietor of Puspa Prasad Pradhan Store at Makhan, price of most of the popular dry fruits has come down because this is the harvest time for most of the dry fruits. “Sale of dry fruits has dropped by 75 percent but traders hope that with the wedding season approaching, the business volume will grow,” said Pradhan.
According to Pradhan, price of cashew nut has dropped to Rs 930 from Rs 980 per kg. Similarly, the price of raisins dropped to Rs 320 from Rs 390 per kg while almond has dropped by Rs 200 per kg to Rs 600 per kg. The price of walnut has reached Rs 280 from Rs 380 per kg and Pistachio nut has dropped by Rs 150 per kg, making it available at Rs 950 per kg.
Sujit Sthapit, a wholesaler of dry fruits and spices at Makhan, said the price of popular dry fruits such as dates, coconut, almond and betel nut has risen in the market in last one month.
Price of dates has reached Rs 120 from Rs 90 per kg and betel nut has reached Rs 290 from Rs 160 a kg. Price of coconut jumped by Rs 20 per kg from Rs 160 per kg.
Most of the popular dry fruits are imported from India, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, Guatemala and California of US due to limited domestic production.
