Between Rasuwagadhi and Syafru Besi, there are around 400 container trucks awaiting permit to enter Kerung, China. The line up of vehicles is blocking the way for other trucks heading to Rasuwa.District Police Office (DPO), Rasuwa is working to ensure smooth flow of vehicles along the route, informed DSP Abadesh Bista.
"The DPO decided to stop the container trucks en route to Rasuwa district at Betrawati of Nuwakot to be able to manage the proper flow of vehicles," said DSP Bista. Although Rasuwagadhi customs office, which had been closed after the catastrophic earthquake in April, has come into operation, container trucks have been left stranded in lack of entry permit from China. China has been allowing entry only to youths of Rasuwa who have obtained local pass from them. Others have not been able to secure permits to transport goods from China.
Mukunda Poudel, secretary of Nepal China Kerung Entrepreneurs Association, said, "The long queue of container trucks has formed in Rauwagadhi because import and export through the transit point in Tatopani has come to a halt."
According to the entrepreneurs, the dry port to be constructed in Timore of Rasuwa can accommodate only 250 containers.
They have called for an alternative that can hold a larger number of container trucks at Kerung-Rasuwagadhi border point.
At present, Nepal's export to China stands at nil with only imports coming through the border point. Around 60 trucks have been entering Nepal daily through the border carrying imported goods from China. Most of the import items include clothes, wool, and apples, among others.
