Mahato who has returned home after attending a two-day Bihar visit has urged the United Democratic Madhesi (UDMF) leaders to lift the blockade that has been disrupted since months.
"The other major custom points are already in operation, said Mahato, inquiring, "Why should we block Birgunj custom point only?"
According to him all the custom points need to be blocked if border points-centric protests are to be continued. Birgunj blockade alone will not exert pressure on the government, he said.
"The government is not serious about our demands. Birgunj custom point blockade also did not exert pressure on the government. It is only causing problems to the general people," he told Republica.
Mahato asserted that the Madhesi alliance must block remaining other four major Nepal-India border points to make the protest more effective. "With UDMF leaders residing in the capital, agitation will not move ahead, urging them to stage sit-ins at the border points.
He also stated that Bihar can better understand than Delhi when it comes to Madhesi woes.
