The rainfall, which at one time continued for two weeks on a stretch, forced six schools to relocate, according to the District Education Office (DEO) here. School rooms were damaged in dozens of schools affecting classes. [break]
“We have been notified that rains damaged classrooms in some three dozen schools,” said acting District Education Officer Laxman Giri. “This has created a scarcity of classrooms and several schools continue to function at risk.”
Many schools are conducting classes in open fields. Even before the rainfall, several schools were facing inadequacy of classrooms.
Kali Prasad Joshi, who teaches in Baijanath Secondary School in Maurda said schools are conducting classes of two grades in the same room.
Rain has also destroyed water supply infrastructure and toilets of schools. Schools are requesting the DEO for help in reconstruction.
