Poll date to be rescheduled in Kapilvastu-1

KAPILVASTU, Nov 7: Kapilvastu District Election Office has informed that all the scheduled poll programs in the constituency no-1 of the district have been suspended following the death of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) candidate on Thursday.



TMDP candidate Sarafat Kha, one of the candidates for constituency no -1 in the district, died of heart attack on Thursday. As per the Constituent Assembly Member Election Directive -2070, the election is to be deferred if any first-past-the-post candidate of that constituency dies 15 days prior to the due poll date. District Election Officer Achyut Prasad Bhandari informed that the Election Commission (EC) has already been notified regarding the death of Kha and deferral of the poll in the constituency.



“The poll programs for the constituency will remain suspended until EC comes up with a new poll date,” informed Bhandari. According to Bhandari, EC will reschedule the poll date for the constituency providing time for the party of the deceased candidate to field another candidate.



Kha had suffered cardiac arrest at around 10 pm on Wednesday. He was rushed to the Bhairahawa Medical College, where he breathed his last on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment. Kha is survived by his wife three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, DMDP has expressed deep sadness over the death of its candidate Kha.
