KATHMANDU, March 15: Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu on Monday raided the house of UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Lharkyal Lama, who was arrested on Sunday after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) found 14 unused bullets from his bank locker.
According to SP Pradhumna Kumar Karki, who is leading the investigation, the police squad was unable to find any weapons during the raid.
"We raided Lama's house in suspicion of the weapon being hidden in the home, but could not find anything there," he said.
Issuing a notice, the Legislature-Parliament on Monday said that it will suspend him from the position only after a case against him is filed in court. "Till then he will be barred from participating in any activities in his capacity as a member of parliament," Parliament Spokesperson Bharat
Gautam said.
Meanwhile, police are preparing to record formal statement from Lama starting from Tuesday and have increased vigilance with the view of finding the weapon believed to be hiddenby Lama.
Lama was arrested after the anti-graft body had opened his locker number 1C/411 at Nepal Investment Bank, Durbar Marg branch in his presence to find the bullets.
CIAA, which has been intensifying investigation on disproportionate level of property allegedly owned by Lama, had handed him to the police to investigate the possession of the suspiciously hidden bullets. However, during preliminary investigation, Lama has denied his involvement in possessing those bullets and has also blamed the government authorities for framing him.
