Defending Champion Gyanu Baba Higher Secondary School of Pokhara also maintained its winning streak in the tournament. Gyanu Baba has won all four matches it has played so far and has eight points. Gyanu Baba overcame its city rival Tops Academy 25-11, 25-21, 25-19 in the first match and Armed Police Force (APF) 25-20, 25-17, 25-18 in the second match of the day. New Diamond and Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center also registered victories in the tournament.
New Diamond defeated Chandeshwori Youth Club of Ramechhap 25-12, 25-9, 25-12. Jawalakhel also beat Chandeshwori 25-11, 25-12, 25-18. Meanwhile, TVS Company handed two scooters to the organizers of the tournament. One of the scooters will be awarded to the Dhorpatan Player of the Year and the another to the popular player of the tournament, which is decided through audience vote.
Sankata remains on top
Sankata Club defeated Boys Sports Club 4-2 in the Martyrs Memorial B Division League on Monday to strengthen possibility of their promotion to ´A´ division.
Sankata has 27 points on the league table and it has only one match to play. Tusal Youth Club, which has played a match less than Sankata, and Birgunj Youth Academy, which has played two matches less than Sankata, has equal 24 points on their account.
Bikram Adhikari gave the first lead to Sankata in the 29th minute but John Maharjan leveled the score in 42nd minute. Kailash Dangol scored the second goal for Sankata just before the break. However, Ganesh Singh Thakuri again leveled the scores.
In the latter half, Sankata dominated the match and Ganga Ram Majhi and Phurba Tsering sealed the match for Sankata.
After the tenth defeat, Boys Sports is second from the bottom.
On the second match of the day played at Nepal Police Academy, Maharajgunj, Boys Union thrashed Sano Gaucharan Club 4-1. Bijay Rai scored in the eighth and the 40th minute to give 2-0 lead to Boys Union. Nabin Limbu made it 3-0 in the 67th minute but Ranjit Lama pulled it to 3-1 in the 87th minute. A minute later, Nishan Limbu scored the fourth goal for Boys Union and sealed the match.
Boys Union has 16 points and is in the eighth position on the points table while Sano Gaucharan has eight points in the 12th position.
Krishna Mohan Badminton kicks off
Purna Thapa of Kathmandu won three matches in the Eighth Nation-wide Krishna Mohan Memorial Badminton Tournament, that kicked off on Sunday in the Armed Police Force Headquarter, Halchowk.
Thapa defeated Hari Tamang of Panchthar 21-11, 21-14 and beat Padam Bahadur Rana of Rupandehi 21-14, 7-21, 21-14. He thrashed Laxmi Suwal of Bhaktapur 21-16, 21-11 in the men´s singles.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Shrestha of Parbat edged past Khadga Bahadur Gurung of Kathmandu 21-9, 21-10 and Bibhusan Tamrakar of Lalitpur 21-9, 21-4. However, Tamrakar upset Ramesh Shrestha of Sindhupalchowk 21-12, 21-14. Prajwal Shrestha of Doti overpowered Lal Bahadur Kunwar of Army Club 21-6, 21-6 but lost to Puspa Banskota of Nepal Police 21-18, 22-24, 16-21.
Meanwhile, Padam Bahadur Rana of Rupandehi eased past Arun Raj Bhandari of Lalitpur 21-2, 21-1. Niranjan Bikram Shahi of Dang pulled a 14-21, 21-16, 21-14 win over Ritesh Thapa of Kapilbastu and Niranjan Bikram Shahi of Dang defeated Anup Neupane of Bardiya 21-17, 18-21, 21-10.
Secretary at the Home Ministry Sushil SJB Rana inaugurated the tournament on Sunday morning amidst a function. The tournament is organized in the memory of Krishna Mohan Shrestha, the first IGP of the APF.
Meanwhile, Kumar Adhikari defeated Pranay Karki 6-1, 6-1 in the opening match of the men´s singles in the Fourth APF Open Lawn Tennis Tournament. Abhishek Banstola thrashed Ganesh Karki 6-1, 6-0 while Gaurav Shah pulled a 6-3, 6-5 win over Rishiram Singh Sigdel.
Likewise, Hari Hayu beat Babu Gadal 6-1, 6-0 and Maheshwar Tiwari edged past Bikash Thapa Magar 6-0, 6-1.
In women´s singles, Ashlesha Lissanevitch thrashed Ganga Sharma 6-0, 6-0 while Bijisha Shrestha upset Punam Shrestha 6-1, 6-2. Renu Bajracharya defeated Priya Laxmi Karki 6-3, 6-5.
Both the tournaments will conclude on January 6.
Both the badminton and lawn tennis tournaments are prestigious and carry the highest cash prizes. The total cash prize in badminton is Rs 765,000 this year -- Rs 100,000 more compared to the last edition. The winner and the runner up in men´s singles will win Rs 50,000 and 25,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, the winners and runner-ups of men´s and women´s singles in lawn tennis will bag a purse of Rs 50,000 and 25,000 respectively.
Neric, AIA in semis
Awareness International Academy (AIA) and Neric registered registered wins on Sunday and fixed the semifinal spots of the Second Ideal Inter School Basketball Tournament in junior boys´ category.
AIA overcame Kantipur 18-14 while Neric beat Universal 33-30. With these two teams, the semifinal fixture of the tournament has been completed. Neric will take on Ideal whereas AIA will lock horns with Reliance International Academy.
Challengers, Hitters reach QF
SG Challengers and Ebisu Real Hitters confirmed the quarterfinal spots on Sunday in the Riddhi Siddhi Marwadi T20 Cricket Tournament.
SG Challengers defeated Dare Devils by 61 runs while Ebisu Real Hitters won the match in super over against Belmonte Fighters.
Electing to bat first on the Modern Indian School Ground, Chobhar, SG Challengers scored 143 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Anil Vibhute scored quick fire 53 runs off 37 balls while Arshad Iman scored 45 runs off 30 balls. Sailesh Agrawal grabbed three wickets for Dare Devils.
Chasing the 144 runs, Dare Devils was all out for 82 runs in 13.3 overs. Amit Kedia was the highest scorer with 16 runs. Anubhav Ranasaria, Vikash Lunia, Arshad Iman and Pankaj Agrawal grabbed two wickets each.
In another match, Ebisu Real Hitters batting first scored 98 runs losing all the wickets. Deepak Bansal scored 27 runs off 23 balls while Hari Agrawal scored 13 runs. Anil Maharjan grabbed four wickets to restrict Ebisu Real Hitters for a moderate total.
Belmonte Fighters scored 98 runs losing all the wickets in 20 overs. The match was then taken to super over where Ebisu Real Hitters overcame Belmonte Fighters.
