According to Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office, Ranipokhari, police personnel deployed heavily from early morning on Tuesday arrested 205 in Kathmandu, 97 in Lalitpur and 26 in Bhaktapur on charges of posing unruly and unwanted activities while celebrating the festival. Of the arrested, three arrested were females."Despite few minor road accidents, this year Kathmandu valley witnessed zero fatality because of the heavy deployment, tight checking and early safety awareness programs," said the DIG Prakash Aryal, Chief of Metropolitan Police Traffic Division.
Along with that, Metropolitan Police Traffic Division has also confiscated 1,661 vehicles including huge number of motorbikes from Kathmandu valley for violating traffic rules. Of them, 1400 vehicles were confiscated in Kathmandu District, 200 vehicles in Lalitpur and 61 vehicles in Bhaktapur.
Of the total drivers impounded, majority of them were found to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, psychotropic substance, and others for over-speeding, reckless driving, triple ridding, driving without license and helmets among others.
On the eve of Holi festival, the Metropolitan Police Traffic Division had announced stringent traffic surveillance plan in the three districts of Kathmandu valley, with plainclothes and uniform police in 53 different vital stations, 90 mobile patrolling squads. The arrested will be charged under the Public Offence Act and might be slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 and one year of imprisonment.
