Traffic police hold 150 vehicles for violating traffic rules

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVTPO) has tightened vehicle inspections on the occasion of Holi celebration on Thursday and so far the office has taken 150 vehicles into their control. Residents of the Kathmandu Valley and other hilly regions are celebrating Holi today.

KATHMANDU, March 13: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVTPO) has tightened vehicle inspections on the occasion of Holi celebration on Thursday and so far the office has taken 150 vehicles into their control. Residents of the Kathmandu Valley and other hilly regions are celebrating Holi today.


Binod Ghimire, the chief of the KVTPO and Senior Superintendent of Police, “We will take appropriate action against anyone violating the rules at the traffic checkpoints, and in addition, vehicles will be detained at the same location throughout the day.”

For this, over 120 checkpoints have been designated in the Valley. The traffic police and the highway police are conducting a co-ordinated inspection campaign. He also mentioned that joint teams equipped with necessary tools for detecting alcohol and drug use have been assigned to every location.


The KVTPO has implemented a Holi-focused security plan in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. According to the office, 129 two-wheelers without proper documents or violating traffic rules have been held. The office said that these vehicles will only be returned to their owners on Thursday evening. Besides, the traffic police have taken action against 563 vehicles for offenses related to overloading, traffic light violations, and lane crossing.
