Bhattarai was welcomed by the civil servants with garlands and vermillion powder.
"There were no formal function and no religious rituals were performed as was the tradition in the past. The prime minister was given an ordinary but enthusiastic welcome by the civil servants," said Bhattarai´s aide Pandey.
Bhattarai´s wife Hisila Yami and daughter Manushi Yami Bhattarai reached the prime minister´s residence separately at 10 pm. The Maoist ideologue was elected prime minister on Sunday.
Shrestha Bhattarai´s personal secy
The newly-elected Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai appointed Ganga Narayan Shrestha as his personal secretary on Tuesday. A Central Committee (CC) member of the UCPN (Maoist), Shrestha, 41, is one of Bhattarai´s trusted lieutenants in the party.
Shrestha, who hails from Sindhuli, is also a member of the interim parliament. He is known for his amicable personality and integrity in the party.
“I am excited to get the appointment. I will do my best to help the prime minister succeed in his mission -- to conclude the peace process and constitution drafting,” Shrestha said.
The Maoist leader was arrested and jailed for six years during the insurgency. Shrestha is also well-versed in Marxist philosophy and is a progressive writer. He has penned nine books that include stories, literary criticisms, memoirs, and poems.
