Come Saturday, September 11 at the Bhrikuti Mandap Fun Park of Kathmandu, and the whole audience there is sure to be left awed with an impressive number of bands set to pay tribute to Black Sabbath.
If anyone has the audacity to ask who the godfathers of metal are, there can be only one answer and that is Black Sabbath.
Tony Iommi’s legendary guitar riffs, combined with Ozzy Osbourne’s singing of dark, satanic lyrics with Bill Ward pumping the drums perfectly and Gezeer Butler’s superior bassline, the band is, to be simply put ‘The pioneers of Heavy-Metal’, as every person you’ll ask will say.
For most part, almost all metal bands cite Sabbath as their influence. Metal heavyweights like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Death, Mayhem and also rock acts like Guns ‘n’ Roses, Korn, Faith No More, among others, are fans of the band.
Even in Nepal, where Metal is looked upon as the sheep that ran away from the herd, Sabbath has been an important factor in the development of bands. Albatross, Monkey-Temple, The Time featuring Jyoti Ghimire and Prabin Shrestha, Dead Mariners, Pariwartan, Deja ‘Vu, Insane Asylum and Newaz all make an eye-catching lineup for the gig.
The bands are set on covering some of Black Sabbath’s most adored songs, adding a flavor of their own to each. There is an expectation of a big crowd at the event, and many Black Sabbath faithful are sure to turn up.
The concert, “Heaven and Hell: A Tribute to Black Sabbath” is set to start at 2 pm on Saturday, September 11, at Bhrikuti Mandap Fun Park.
