The meeting held at the secretariat of the Special Committee in New Baneshwor was called mainly to resolve the predicament that if the country should go for fresh elections or revive the dissolved Constituent Assembly (CA). [break]
The meeting failed to take any major decision regarding the current political impasse, informed senior UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal after the meeting.
The senior UML leader also said the meeting decided to give top leaders of the parties the responsibility to continue efforts to resolve the deadlock and give country a political outlet.
Stating that no groundwork has been done with regard to whether to go for fresh polls or reinstate the dissolved CA, Nepal underlined that a national consensus government should be formed to resolve the issues.
“The meeting was positive as it has opened new avenues for talks between political parties to resolve the political deadlock," said NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel.
He however expressed his doubt that the ruling parties insistence on unveiling annual budget might spoil the entire effort.
The next meeting has been scheduled for Thursday morning.
