"The jacket fits me perfectly. And the blanket will make our nights warmer," she said. All 43 elderly people of backward Pahari community living in Thokarpa have received the winter relief materials.
All of them were worried that they may not be able to survive this winter. Many of them have been suffering from pneumonia and they have grown weaker unable to cope well with the cold conditions.
Six people from Pahari community in the district have already lost their lives due to cold in the last 40 days.
"None of them would have died if they had warm clothes. Children and elderly people are worst-affected by harsh cold," said a village leader Giri Bahadur Pahari.
Nepal Centre for Disaster Management (NCDM) and Mandala Organization had provided them with the materials after learning about their dire situation.
There are almost 400 households of Pahari community in Thokarpa ward number 1, 2, 3 and 4. Among them, the situation in Jamune is particularly bad. They do not have warm clothes as most of them were buried in the rubbles of their quake-ravaged houses.
"People of Pahari community are suffering terribly. We will bring more warm clothes and relief materials for each of them," said Milan Tamang, general secretary of Mandala Organization.
