KATHMANDU, July 3: Leaders of various opposition parties, including Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, and the newly-launched CPN-Maoist, on Tuesday reinforced their voice against the government plan to bring in a full-fledged budget for fiscal year 2012/13 through ordinance.
A joint meeting of the parties held at the UML headquarters in Balkhu this afternoon decided to stand firm against the government bid and, if need be, urge the president against endorsing such budget by the government. [break]
The parties have been opposing the idea of the current government bringing a complete budget, arguing that it has no authority to do so, considering its caretaker status.
The meeting also called in the government’s attention to the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the budget, in which the apex court had allowed the government to bring a downsized budget, should parties fail to agree on a full budget.
The meeting also demanded that Prime Minister BaburamBhattarai promptly resign, clearing way for the formation of a national consensus government and helping end the existing political impasse.
