KATHMANDU, Aug 17: One World Theatre premiered Eugene O’Neill’s play ‘A Moon for the Misbegotten’ on Friday at Theatre Village. The play features talents like Aashant Sharma, Deeya Maskey, Rajkumar Pudasaini, Alan Gurung and Sameer Dixit who were resplendent in their characters. The play is directed by Deborah Merola who is also the Founding Artistic Director of One World Theatre. Eugene O’Neill is an Irish American playwright and Nobel laureate in Literature.

‘A Moon for the Misbegotten’ is about Phil Hogan, a tenant farmer who schemes to get his rough mannered daughter, Josie, to marry their landlord James Tyrone Jr. The actors put up wonderful entertaining performances but it is Aashant Sharma who makes the most of his scheming character, Phil Hogan, to show us that he knows his craft very well.

The play is long, judging by normal Nepali play time that we’re used to. It takes around 2 and a half hour to tell the story and it is text heavy, as the director mentioned at the start. However, the play and the enactment of the story by the actors are worth the time.

‘A Moon for the Misbegotten’ will be performed on two weekends, on August 16, 17, 18 and August 22, 23, 24, 25, at the new Theatre Village, in front of The Attic Bar, Lazimpat, at 5:30 pm sharp. Special Saturday Matinees on August 17 and August 24 will start from 12 noon. The tickets for the play are priced at Rs 500 and Rs 200, while students with ID can get tickets at Rs 100.
