Speaking at the program, South Asian coordinator of the campaign Kamla Bhasin said that ´one billion rising´ was a historical attempt and an unique call for gender equality and justice. [break]
"We as part of the women´s movements have struggled all over south Asia for decades to end violence against women, but women´s condition is still very poor, and girl child is still not the priority of the majority," she said.
"As per UN data more than one billion women in the planet are experiencing one or the other form of violence just due to their gender. One billion rising will make the earth move by uniting us through dance and protest across every country," she added.
Meanwhile, talking to Republica, Nureen Khan from Pakistan said that women should fight for their rights but at the same time they should equally be serious about their families.
“We will be successful and justice will prevail only if we are able to make the men understand the issue,” said Khan.
