Number of poor increased due to unstable govt: DPM KC

CHITWAN, Feb 7: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Chitra Bahadur KC, has expressed concern over the rising number of poor people due to the earthquake and border blockade.

Talking to media persons here today, DPM KC said that some 25 per cent people were below the poverty line in the country but now it has gone up following the earthquake and border blockade. He said that the government has been collecting records of poor families in 25 districts and added that they would be provided with ID cards within this fiscal year.



Similarly ID cards would be distributed after collecting data of poor families in the remaining 50 districts next year, added DPM KC.

Also Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, DPM KC said different facilities would be provided to poor people including subsidy in education, health and employment. Stating that number of poor people has not decreased for lack of stable government, he expressed the belief that the number of people would decrease gradually if a government remains for four-five years.


The DPM said, "There is act and regulations in favor of poor people with the promulgation of new constitution. Nepalis would not be below the poverty line for many years if there is a stable government”.


Referring to the upcoming India visit by the Prime Minister, he said the prime Minister has said that there will be an all-party meeting before his India visit, and that he would not make any agreement against national interest. RSS
