KATHMANDU, Nov 19: National Sports Council (NSC), the sports governing body of Nepal, has directed the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) not to take any policy-level decisions. The NSC issued such directives after long serving president of the football governing body, Ganesh Thapa, was handed a 10-year ban by FIFA, the apex international football body, charging him of corruption.

Along with the 10-year ban, Thapa was also slapped with a fine of Rs 2.1 million.

The NSC on Wednesday wrote to ANFA seeking three points clarification related to the punishment of Thapa handed by FIFA. The letter has directed ANFA not to undertake any policy-level decision. Similarly, the NSC has also asked ANFA to make a copy of the FIFA decision available to it promptly after it receives from FIFA.

The letter also states that the punishment on Thapa has brought national shame to the country and hindered the development of football.

Meanwhile, issuing a press statement on Wednesday, ANFA informed the nomination of senior Vice-president Narendra Shrestha as the acting chief of the football governing body.

In the letter written to ANFA, the NSC has also asked about the provision of appointing acting president at the football governing body. The NSC has asked ANFA to submit written clarification within three days.
