CAN General Secretary Paras Khadka said the 2025 edition is expected to draw more spectators, particularly as matches will be played under a day-night format using newly installed floodlights at the Tribhuvan University cricket ground. Speaking at a press meet on Saturday, Khadka said all preparations for the event have been finalized.
According to CAN, the cash prizes will remain the same as the first edition. The league champion will receive Rs 11 million, while the runner-up will take home Rs 5.1 million. The third-place team will receive Rs 2.5 million, and the fourth-place finisher will earn Rs 1.5 million.
The upgraded cricket ground now has a parapet with a seating capacity of around 10,000 spectators. Six poles equipped with 70 floodlights each—totaling 420 lights—have been installed, enabling Nepal to host night cricket matches for the first time. CAN said the new facilities will enhance the viewing experience for spectators attending the games.
CAN expects to earn between Rs 300 million and Rs 400 million from organizing NPL 2025 and has already secured sponsorship worth Rs 150 million.
Eight franchise teams will compete in this year’s league. Defending champions Janakpur Bolts will take on the Kathmandu Gurkhas in the opening match at 4 pm on Monday at the Tribhuvan University cricket ground in Kirtipur.
