NHRC writes to OPMCM to advance TJ process

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has written to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) to advance the process of forming the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.

KATHMANDU, March 6: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has written to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) to advance the process of forming the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.



In a press release issued today by the NHRC’s Assistant Spokesperson Shyambabu Kafle, it is stated that the letter was written today to advance the process of forming the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons, which should be formed to conclude the peace process.

“The victims and stakeholders had requested the NRCH to take necessary initiatives to end the confusion in transitional justice. Due to the failure to form the commission, a sense of despair has arisen among the conflict victims who are aspiring for justice,” the statement said.


The NHRC also stated that although the government has formed two commissions to address transitional justice, which is an important part of the peace process and the work has progressed, the previous commissions were unable to complete the task of making recommendations regarding human rights violations during the conflict period.
