NHRC to study status of its recommendations

KATHMANDU, Sept 24: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to study the status of implementation of its recommendations regarding cases related to human rights violation.

Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the NHRC informed that the study would focus on the recommendations made on 12 specific cases of human rights violations.The commission is all set to study the progress on recommendations made on Doramba killings, Bandarmudhe blast as well as armed-conflict era killings in Kapilvastu, Nangi of Panchthar, Pili of Kalikot and Godar of Dhanusha districts. Likewise, the NHRC is also looking into the execution of recommendations made after extra-judicial killings at Kotbada of Kalikot, Chisapani of Khotang and killings at Phulbari, Dang almost 14 years ago. The NHRC will also study the killings at Bangadovan, Baglung 12 years ago and some other cases.

The NHRC has also decided to focus on the recommendations made on the incidents of caste-based discrimination in Siraha and Doti as well as violence against a woman in Mohattari district alleging her of practicing witchcraft.

"The commission will interact with the victims' families and all other concerned people of the 12 cases for this research and study," reads the statement issued by the NHRC Spokesperson Mohana Ansari.

The research team includes students of Masters Degree level from Nepal Law Campus. The team will be divided into three groups to conduct the research.
