NEPSE falls 20 points as trading volume drops sharply

The market remained in negative territory throughout the trading session after slipping shortly after opening. Monday’s decline follows losses of 11 points on Friday and 13 points on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, June 8: Nepal’s stock market extended its losing streak on Monday, with the benchmark NEPSE index declining by 20.27 points to close at 2,735.41.



The market remained in negative territory throughout the trading session after slipping shortly after opening. Monday’s decline follows losses of 11 points on Friday and 13 points on Thursday.

Investor sentiment remained weak, with share prices of 223 listed companies falling, while 41 advanced and six remained unchanged.


Trading turnover also dropped significantly. Total transactions stood at Rs 4.08 billion, down by more than Rs 1.5 billion from the previous trading session, when shares worth Rs 5.61 billion were traded.


Sector-wise, only the finance subgroup posted gains, rising 0.26 percent. All other sectors closed lower, led by trading, which fell 1.77 percent, followed by the others subgroup at 1.50 percent and development banks at 1.03 percent.


Hydropower, hotel and tourism, banking, life insurance, non-life insurance, microfinance, investment, and manufacturing sectors also recorded losses during the day’s trading.
