KATHMANDU, Oct 21: Nepal thrashed Ireland by eight wickets in the last round robin match of the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers being played in Malaysia on Wednesday.

Chasing the competitive target of 185 runs set by Ireland, Nepal reached the target at 42.5 overs at the loss of just two wickets. Sunil Dhamala and Sandeep Sunar's 170-run opening partnership guided Nepal to easy victory over Ireland today. Sunar made 85 before being run out while Dhamala scored 75 runs.

With today's victory, undefeated Nepal has recorded four straight wins in the tournament.

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Ireland made 184 for 7 in 50 overs at Kinrara Oval ground. Aaron Gillespie made hard fought 58-run while Jack Tector contributed 46 helping Ireland to post the 185-run target.

Prem Tamang yet again shone for Nepal as he claimed four wickets today for Nepal. Lalit Rajbanshi picked two wickets.

Although Ireland was tottering at 84-5 at 23rd over, Nepali bowlers, however, failed to utilize the bowling momentum after that. Lower order batsmen Gillespie and Tom Stanton's patient innings helped Ireland to reach the competitive total of 184 runs.

Today's match, however, will not affect overall status of the two teams as both Nepal and Ireland have already secured the final spots as the top-two finisher in the league round.

Nepal and Ireland are scheduled to play the final on Thursday. Only the winner of the Qualifiers will book ticket for Bangladesh, which will host the youth World Cup next year from 22 January to 14 February.
