Nepal stresses strengthening UN Development System

Permanent Representative Thapa stated that the choices we make today will help shape a multilateral system that can deliver for future generations.

KATHMANDU, June 4: Nepal has stressed the need for strengthening the UN Development System for the assurance of multilateralism. 



At the discussion on “The Future of Multilateralism: Building the UN Development System for the Post-2030 Era” at the UN Headquarters in New York, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in New York, Lok Bahadur Thapa, said that as we look beyond 2030, we must ensure that the United Nations Development System remains fit for purpose not only for the remainder of the 2030 Agenda but also for the challenges and opportunities that lie beyond it.

Permanent Representative Thapa stated that the choices we make today will help shape a multilateral system that can deliver for future generations.


"The future of the United Nations cannot be designed by institutions alone. It must be shaped through stronger partnership and solidarity," Thapa added.


Thapa opined that the engagement of civil society, youth, academia, local authorities, the private sector and other stakeholders will be essential if we are to build a development system that remains relevant and effective in the decades ahead.
