KATHMANDU, Aug 29: The monsoon has become more active in Nepal over the past few days. There has been heavy rainfall in Surkhet in the last 24 hours, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).
The DHM stated that the highest rainfall of 292.3 millimeters of torrential rain has occurred at the Khani Khola rainfall measurement center in Surkhet.
Senior meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar at the DHM’s Meteorological Forecasting Division stated that due to the active low-pressure system, there has been more rainfall at certain places but fragmented precipitation in limited areas of the western region.

According to the DHM, Panchase of Parbat received 179.3 millimeters of rainfall. This is very heavy rainfall for the place.
Similarly, there has been 146.3 millimeters of rainfall in Banke, 138 millimeters in Dang, 107 in Darchula and 105 millimeters in Sindhupalchok, while over 12 stations have recorded rainfall between 80 to 100 millimeters.
The DHM’s records mention that rainfall of 50 to 80 millimeters has occurred in many measurement centers.
Meteorologist Manandhar said that more rainfall will likely occur until this afternoon and evening, and it will decrease somewhat tomorrow. The DHM reported that rainfall occurred in the western region due to local systems, while in the eastern region the weather was influenced by a system coming from the Bay of Bengal.
