KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Nepal Police have begun implementing the “Integrated Security Plan, 2082 BS” to ensure that the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election, scheduled for March 5, is conducted in a free, fair, safe and credible environment.

Ahead of the election, the police have strengthened personnel deployment and management. Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police Deputy Inspector General Abhi Narayan Kafle said the force is committed to using all available resources efficiently while incorporating decisions from the Election Commission to maintain effective security arrangements.

Kafle stated that long-range patrols have been carried out 1,136 times, while short-range patrols have been conducted 389,960 times, deploying a total of 1,346,328 personnel. Patrols have been intensified to prevent potential sabotage, arson, or other unlawful activities related to the election.

“To ensure a fear-free environment for the elections, the police are conducting regular patrols while also collecting intelligence, analyzing risks, and improving operational flows,” he said. “Regular monitoring and deployment are also in place to control cross-border intrusion and criminal activities.”

The police have adopted strategies to secure candidates, voters, political party leaders, VIPs, election observers, media personnel, election campaigns, and victory processions. Special security arrangements have been made at sensitive institutions, while police are actively monitoring and acting against anti-election groups, illegal fundraising, threats, disorderly conduct, criminal activities, and hooliganism.

To neutralize potential threats from weapons looted or lost during previous movements, special teams have been formed to identify and recover such arms. Police are also working to recover looted and missing weapons and apprehend escaped detainees and prisoners.

The Integrated Security Plan, 2082 BS for the HoR election has been approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs. A Central Election Cell has been formed at Nepal Police Headquarters under Additional Inspector General of Police Umaprasad Chaturvedi, head of the Operations Division, to oversee preparations for safe elections.
