MAHENDRANAGAR, Sept 28: Cross-border travel between Nepal and India through the Gaddachauki border point in Kanchanpur has returned to normal as weather conditions improve.
Four-wheeled vehicles had been barred from using the Sharda Barrage, also known as the Banbasa Bridge, for two days after the water level in the Mahakali River exceeded 100,000 cusecs due to continuous rainfall.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Tek Bahadur Rawat, spokesperson for the Kanchanpur District Police Office, said the Banbasa Bridge resumed full operation on Monday morning after the river’s water level fell.
Police said the river was flowing at around 98,000 cusecs.
The Indian side has been restricting large vehicles from crossing the bridge whenever the river’s flow exceeds 100,000 cusecs, citing the deteriorated condition of the bridge.
Nabin Bhatt, chairperson of Mahakali Multipurpose Transport Company, said bus services from Mahendranagar to Kathmandu, Pokhara and other destinations resumed on Monday.
“Passenger bus services to Kathmandu had been suspended for four days due to the rainfall, while services to the hilly districts of Sudurpaschim had been halted for three days,” Bhatt said. “With the weather improving, transport services have resumed from today.”
