KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Medical entrepreneur and pro-monarchy campaigner Durga Prasai was arrested on Monday after police launched an investigation into remarks he made about Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Rachana Khatiwada.
A team from the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau detained Prasai from his residence in Bhaktapur following a complaint lodged over comments that were deemed objectionable, police officials said.
The controversy stems from remarks Prasai made linking Khatiwada to the death of her son, Rasik Khatiwada, who died during the Gen Z Movement. The comments drew criticism, with Khatiwada raising the issue in Parliament and her family subsequently filing a formal complaint against him.

Prasai’s son, Nirajan Prasai, confirmed that police arrested his father after obtaining a court warrant.
According to Cyber Bureau Spokesperson SP Dilip Kumar Giri, police secured a warrant from the district court and arrested Prasai under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006, which deals with electronic offenses. “He was taken into custody for an offense under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006,” Giri told Republica.
Police said Prasai has been detained for investigation and that further legal proceedings will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny of online speech and public statements related to the Gen Z Movement, a politically sensitive issue that continues to generate debate both inside and outside Parliament.
Police have already detained him at least 15 times on various charges over the years, half of them under the Sushila Karki-led interim government tasked with holding the elections on March 5, 2006. The Balendra Shah-led government has also arrested him multiple times on various charges.
