Nepali players dominated their show in kumute events on Friday to add ten golds to the overnight tally of four golds secured on Thursday in kata events. [break]
It was a familiar scene for Ganga Devi Adhikari as she won gold in women´s 68 kg category on Friday in the same city where she had claimed her maiden gold during the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) two years ago. Another SAG medalist Anu Adhikari, who had then won silver, finished with gold this time in women´s 50 kg category.
Other players in the women´s section who secured gold for Nepal are Malika Thapa Chhetri (45 kg), Roji Nagarkoti (55 kg), Laxmi Bhatta (61 kg).
In the men´s section too, SAG medalists Sunil Lama and Binod Maharjan won a gold each. Lama had won gold in men´s 55 kg during the SAG and he repeated the feat while SAG silver medalist Maharjan secured gold in men´s 60 kg on Friday - the closing day of the two-day event participated by 12 countries.
Likewise, Bijay Lama (50 kg), Mukunda Maharjan (67 kg) and Lekhnath Mainali (75 kg) added a gold each for Nepal.
Earlier on Thursday, Parshuram Bastola and Subhadra Shrestha had won gold medals in the men´s and women´s individual kata. Mande Kaji Shrestha, Ganesh Bahadur Thing and Kedar Bahadur Simkhada had secured gold in men´s team kata while Subhadra Shrestha, Chanchala Danuwar and Sangita Dangol had won the title of women´s team kata.
Deepak Shrestha was the coach for Nepali team.
Other countries that participated in the event were India, Jordan, Syria, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Pakistan, Bhutan and host Bangladesh.
Issuing a press statement, President of Nepal Karate Do Federation and Nepal Sito-ryu Karate Do Association Dawa Gurung said that the achievement of the players has revived the past glory of Nepali Karate.
