NC won't compromise on press freedom: leader KC

KATHMANDU, Aug 9: Nepali Congress central committee member Arjun Narsing KC has stated that his party would not compromise on press freedom.

Speaking at a programme organized to mark the eighth anniversary of the National Network of the National dailies in the capital city Saturday, leader KC reaffirmed that NC was committed to ensuring full press freedom in the new constitution.

 General of the Armed Police Force Sanat Kumar Basnet among others who spoke of the need to assure of full press freedom constitutionally. RSSKC further argued that although the preliminary draft of the new constitution has many errors, the issuance of the draft has paved the way for drafting the new constitution.

He was of the opinion that more deliberations should be sought on the draft constitution to give a final touch to the document and incorporate the issues that were spared in the initial draft.

Similarly, Press Council Nepal's Chairman Borna Bahadur Karki clarified that the Council was serious how to sustain small media as these were equally playing important role in keeping people abreast of happenings.

Also speaking at the programme, Chief Commissioner of the Information Commission, Krishnahari Baskota underscored the need to have a federal Commission in view of the federal model the country was adopting.

Present in the programmes were former General Secretary of the CPN (ML) CP Mainali, Vice-President of the Sadbhawana Party Laxmanlal Karna and former Inspector
