JHAPA, July 8: Nepali Congress mayoral candidate Bimal Acharya has been elected to Mechinagar Municipality. Acharya defeated his closest rival CPN-UML mayoral candidate Bishnu Prasai with 20, 776 votes. His closest rival Prasai garnered 19422 votes.

However, CPN-UML deputy mayoral candidate Mina Upreti has won the election defeating her closest rival NC deputy mayoral candidate Durga Khatiwada. She garnered 19994 votes while her closest Khatiwada obtained 19077 votes.
